Is Rachael Ray Dog Food On Recall List

Fortunately, there is only one recall in brand history and none affecting their dog food products. Here is an overview of all the Rachael Ray recalls in recent history: In June 2015, the FDA issued a recall for five wet cat food recipes as well as two variety packs that included some of the affected products.

Rachael Ray Nutrish Recall History

Below is a list of all recall incidents tied to this brand. It encompasses an analysis of all dog food recalls dating back to 2010, as well as further back pointing out any releases directly related to this product line.

Note: If you dont see any recall below, it means either of these two things. 1. There have been no recalls directly related to this product line. 2. We have not yet updated the section to reflect a recent recall.

Recalls related to Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food:

  • None: Lets hope it stays that way!

Worth mentioning: Five varieties of the Rachael Ray Nutrish cat food was recalled in June of 2015. for potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D.

Also: For a company thats been in business as long as Nutrishs parent has, this is a truly impressive record, one that reflects on their commitment to not dwell too far of course and stick to making what they know how to make best, pet food/products.

But: There have been many complaints by concerned pet owners that Nutrish has maybe lost its way and is becoming another sub-par commercial dog food brand. No recalls have been officially issued however, and we are keeping our eye on these consumer complaints for any patterns.

Note: Should any of the above change, well be sure to keep you posted, simply sign up for our free recalls newsletter at the end of this post.

How Does Rachael Ray Dog Food Compare To Other Super Premium Brands

It should be noted that there are generally a lot more ingredients in Rachael Ray dog food than in some of the other expensive dog food brands. Dog owners who believe their dog should follow a mainly carnivorous diet, or a low carb and protein-rich diet, may be deterred by the fairly average animal protein content of the recipes and the inclusion of carbohydrates such as rice or potatoes near the top of the ingredients listings. Although the real meat from US farms is a better ingredient than imported meat of unknown origin, and the ingredients are safe for dogs to consume, the dog food isnt suitable for human consumption, whereas some super premium brands are.

The Zero Grain and Just 6 recipes are perhaps the best in the dry food range, as they are aimed at dogs with allergies and sensitivities. So overall, although Rachael Ray may not be the very best dog food available, it does have many good attributes that make it appealing to dog owners.

Controversial Ingredients: Beet Pulp + Iron Oxide

Viral Dog Django Has 1 Million TikTok Followers Because of His Contagious Smile

There are a few ingredients listed on the Rachael Ray Real Chicken & Veggies Recipe that give some owners pause. While none of these are likely to cause harm to your dog, some owners prefer to select foods that avoid them entirely.

The two most problematic ingredients in the recipe are beet pulp and iron oxide.

Beet pulp is actually a pretty good source of fiber, but many owners look at it as a cheap filler that fails to provide much nutritional value. As long as it is only included in moderate amounts, it is unlikely to cause any problems.

Iron oxide is essentially rust that is used as a food dye. This may not be a deal-breaker for you, but it is important to note that food colors and dyes are entirely unnecessary additives for your dogs diet, and they only serve to make the food look tastier to you your dog doesnt care about the color of his food.

Rachael Ray Nutrish Wet Dog Food Review

Based on its ingredients alone, Rachael Ray Nutrish looks like an average wet product.

The dashboard displays a dry matter protein reading of 41%, a fat level of 23% and estimated carbohydrates of about 28%.

As a group, the brand features an average protein content of 41% and a mean fat level of 23%. Together, these figures suggest a carbohydrate content of 28% for the overall product line.

And a fat-to-protein ratio of about 56%.

Which means this Nutrish product line contains

Near-average protein. Near-average fat. And near-average carbs when compared to other wet dog foods.

When you consider the protein-boosting effect of the pea protein and peas, this looks like the profile of a wet product containing a moderate amount of meat.

Bottom line?

Rachael Ray Nutrish is a moisture-rich dog food using a moderate amount of named meats as its main source of animal protein, thus earning the brand 4 stars.

Highly recommended.

However, those concerned about the presence of menadione in this recipe may wish to ignore our rating and look elsewhere for another product.

Rachael Ray Nutrish Little Bites Small Breed Natural Dry Dog Food, Real ...

There are available in a wide range of flavors including chicken, pepperoni, beef, turkey bacon, and bison and theres no use of corn, wheat or artificial flavorings or byproducts that you will usually see in low grade treats.

Instead, the treats focus on real meat protein as the primary ingredient, along with a few flavorings here and there to increase the flavor and ensure your dog loves to be them.

Carbohydrates: Ground Rice + Ground Corn

Ground rice and corn are the two primary carbohydrates included in the Real Chicken & Veggies recipe. Generally speaking, these are regarded as low-quality carbohydrates, and most premium dog foods avoid them.

Note that dogs do not require carbohydrates at all they are only included in dog foods because they are an inexpensive source of calories.

In a perfect world, youd probably feed your dog a diet primarily comprised of proteins and healthy fats. But this would be quite expensive to do several thousand calories of chicken per week would cost a pretty penny.

Ground rice is essentially rice flour, and while it is free of glutens, it doesnt provide a whole lot of nutritional value, aside from the calories it contains. Corn is not a problem for dogs who arent allergic to it, but it is generally avoided by most premium dog food manufacturers.

Real Chicken & Veggies derives about 41% of its calories from carbohydrates. While theres nothing necessarily wrong with this, it is far more than would be ideal.

Is This Food Good For My Dog

The Nutrish brand is marketed as being super-premium and all-natural, but you cannot always believe what a brand says about itself on their website. It is definitely a good thing that this brand is produced by a family-owned company in the United States and it also helps that no food products have been recalled. In order to truly evaluate the quality of the brand, however, you have to take a look at their ingredients, their manufacturing process, and the quality of their products. The website states that Nutrish products are made with natural ingredients like real meat and wholesome veggies with added vitamins and minerals and a quick review of several products reveals this to be true. Overall, the brand seems to be a high-quality brand of food.

Dry Food: When it comes to her dry food offerings, the brand consists of four different product lines. The Dish Super Premium line of dry foods features simple, natural ingredients cooked into complete and balanced meals. Super Premium dry food recipes are all made with farm-raised chicken as the number-1 ingredient and they are supplemented with wholesome veggies plus vitamins and minerals. The Zero Grain product line features grain-free recipes made with premium proteins like turkey, beef, and salmon with sweet potato or potato. The Just 6 line includes a single limited ingredient product made with just 6 simple ingredients. Here is a list of their dry food recipes:

Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Rachel Ray Nutrish Zero Grain Dog Food Hazardous To Dogs Health

A proposed class action alleges Rachel Ray Nutrish-brand Zero Grain dog food is harmful to dogs in that the product is deficient of taurine and contains legume-based protein, a combination linked to a potentially fatal heart condition when used in grain-free foods.

The plaintiff, a Los Angeles resident, claims consumers would not have bought the premium-priced dog food, sometimes paying up to double what competitors charge for similar products, absent the defendants deceptive and misleading representations.

In other words, Plaintiff and the Class were actually paying more for less healthy foods, the lawsuit says.
